Good morning Doss Families -

As we enter the fifth week of school, students and staff are confident in their daily school routines, and the lunch ban has been lifted. You are welcome to have lunch with your student. We ask that you follow the guidelines we have in place. Only eat lunch with your student; you may not bring other students to sit with you and your child. Please sit at the assigned tables for lunch guests, and you may not sit at the class-assigned table or the food allergy tables.

September’s SEL theme is RESPECT. The definition we are using is from our new Character Strong curriculum. Respect is seeing value in all people and things and treating them with care. Our staff is committed to modeling respect for our students in our actions and words towards students, staff, parents, and self.

As part of AISD's ongoing efforts to better understand the impact of the 2017 Bond Modernizations, they are gathering feedback from families and staff at our school. This feedback is instrumental in ensuring that our modernization efforts meet the needs of our students and staff. A link to a brief survey can be found at bit.ly/aisd-2017-bond

This Saturday, September 21st, is the Capitol Peace Concert, celebrating the UN International Day of Peace. A group of 30+ Doss students from various cultures and backgrounds, ranging in age from kindergarten to 5th grade, have come together as a choir to sing at the event. If you would like to show your support, it is from noon to 1pm in the Texas Capitol Rotunda.

School fashion allows students to express themselves, and we fully support that. However, we must follow the dress code guidelines in the Austin ISD success guide linked here. https://www.austinisd.org/students/dress-code

Safety reminders for morning drop-off and dismissal carlines. During the morning carline, we only allow students to exit the car on the driver's side, the school building side, so that students are not walking between vehicles or near through traffic. And students should only get out of cars in the unloading zone where there is adult supervision. In the afternoon 2nd-5th grade carline, remember you may only turn right onto Far West Blvd. Thank you.

Have a great week -

Principal Sheridan
