Principal Newsletter Week: 08/17/2025

Good morning Doss Families -

Tuesday, we will welcome back Doss Elementary students and families! With such a strong and supportive community, we know this year will be full of engaging learning, new friendships, and memorable experiences. If you have any questions or need support, please reach out to our staff or the PTA—they’re here to ensure your year is both successful and enjoyable. We are Doss Together!

For the first day of school:

  • Families are welcome to walk students to their classrooms beginning at 7:30am.

  • The tardy bell rings at 7:40 am.

  • If you arrive before 7:30, please wait in the cafeteria.

  • Parking is limited—please do not park in numbered spaces, as these are reserved for staff.

Important things:

  1. School starts at 7:40 - students in the classroom an ready to learn

  2. Send a healthy snack and refillable water bottle with your student

  3. School dismissal is 3:10pm.  PATIENCE is the name of the game especially during the first week or two of school as we fine tune.

  4. Doss Dismissal Plan

    • No one will drive down Northledge Dr during dismissal time (3-3:20pm)

    • 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade carline is in the back of the building

    • Right turn ONLY from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade carline onto Far West

    • 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th walkers, bikers, and walk up parents will be in the flagpole and bike rack area

  5. Please notify your teacher how your student gets home.

  6. Get connected with your teacher’s weekly updates. Not sure how? Ask them or check the Wednesday folder for more info.

  7. We do not allow lunch visitors until the week of Sept. 8th.

  8. We kindly ask that you avoid picking up your child after 2:00pm. Early pickups at this time can be difficult, as it takes a few minutes to locate students, allow them to gather their belongings, and make their way to the office. In addition, traffic in the parking lot becomes especially challenging to navigate after 2:00 p.m. each day.

You’re invited to join me in the first Parent Principal Coffee of the new school year this Friday, August 22nd in the Doss cafeteria. We’ll discuss the personal communication device update, school consolidation process, crossing guard, etc.

You may remember the challenges we faced last year with crossing guard coverage—and unfortunately, they continue. At this time, the city does not have a crossing guard assigned to the Northledge Dr./Far West Blvd. signal.

In the meantime, we would greatly appreciate any volunteers who can help keep our students safe until a guard is hired. If you or someone you know may be interested in the position, it is a 3-hour per day commitment with pay at $21.63 per hour.
HERE is the application, please feel free to share with friends, neighbors, and community members who might be a good fit. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe!
