Good morning Doss Families -

Our wonderful PTA strikes again by hosting a fantastic Doss Daughter Dance! There is no doubt that it was an enjoyable event, you could feel it during the event and see the joy on their faces. Thank you for making this such a special event for our Doss Owls and families.

With one week until Spring Break, our Doss Student Leadership Team is hosting “Hats Off to Spring” spirit day this Friday, March 8th. All are encouraged to wear a favorite hat to school. To raise our spirits even higher, Austin ISD is celebrating International SEL Day: Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Leaders on Friday, March 8, 2024 as well. Mayor Kirk Watson has proclaimed March 8th as Austin’s SEL and CP&I Day! We invite you to wear a Doss Kindness shirt or Doss shirt on Friday to show your commitment to SEL and kindness at Doss.

A huge shout out to Nathan Steenport for chairing this year’s Doss Science Fair. We sent 18 Doss students to the Regional Science Fair last Saturday. Doss students were awarded 16 - 1st place and 2 - 2nd place. Way to go Doss Owls!  We are beaming with Doss Pride over your accomplishments.

The AISD annual Youth Art Month student exhibition is the culminating performance for visual arts students from every campus. Each AISD teacher is allowed to fill three poster boards with student art of their choice for display during the exhibit. Ms. Cremeens and Ms. Haegelin had a hard time choosing what art to feature, as we have so many talented Doss artists.

Last week they installed the artwork at the PAC and they will be on display for the month of March, culminating in a reception to which our Doss entrants and their families have been invited. HERE is a list of the Doss artists and a photo of Doss’ display. We are so proud of our Doss artists' hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm! They are all very excited to be featured.

Soon we will begin the class placement process in preparation for the 2024-2025 school year.  Part of this process is giving parents and caregivers an opportunity to share any important information they believe should be considered in the placement of their child/children. This should be important information the school or current teacher may not be aware of. This is not mandatory, but we welcome any feedback you’d like to share. I will be accepting feedback until March 28th at 4pm. Please use this 24-25 Parent Input Form to submit your feedback.

Austin ISD Pride Week is March 18-23, 2024. You may click the link to see the Doss Pride Week Letter. Family slideshow photos are due Friday, March 8th. Link can be found in the Pride Week Letter. Reach out to Principal Sheridan if you have any questions.

With many Austin ISD students living in food insecure households, access to healthy food may be challenging when the district is closed.  Families can use the community resources below to find free meals in their area while Austin ISD offices and schools are closed for Spring Break:

A friendly reminder when having lunch with your child please remember that you may only have lunch with your child and sit at the designated high top tables. Having other students join you is not allowed.

Have a wonderful week -

Principal Sheridan
