Principal Newsletter Week: 01/20/2025

Good morning Doss Families -

I hope this finds you staying warm and cozy. One positive thing about this winter weather is we have a school holiday tomorrow, Monday, January 20th, so stay home and take care of your people, pets, plants, and pipes. If the weather predictions are correct, the district will notify you of any school delays or closings via email and robocall. And I will send a message via Konstella.

Last Friday was our monthly assembly and our student leaders shared information about Martin Luther King, Jr. Our PreK students sang “Peace Like a River” in honor of MLK and it was a sweet, joyous sound. To complete our tribute to MLK, our counselors created a video demonstrating PERSEVERANCE, our SEL character word of the month. Use this link to enjoy the video.

As we have been focusing on PERSEVERANCE this month, it brings to mind how the families, educators, and community members affected by the LA fires will have to persevere. As most of us have not lived through this type of devastation we would like to do something to help the children and educators at Marquez Elementary that was destroyed in the fires. HERE is a flyer with more information.

This coming Friday, January 24th is a Parent Principal Coffee. The topic will be Enroll Austin and I will do my best to answer any questions you may have about enrollment/registration for the 25-26 school year.

Thank you Nathan Steenport, parent, and Caroline Pham, 5th gr teacher, for chairing the Doss Science Fair. We are so proud of all the students that participated in the Doss Science Fair. The following students will be moving on to the Regional Science Fair competition in February.
